Inside the mind of a kind of quirky, pretty stubborn, way too opinionated, twenty-something, heteroflexible Black female newly employed up-and-moved-to-DC Princeton GRADUATE who's just trying to sort out her life. An uninhibited celebration of all that is me, this blog is an exercise in self-discovery and live-with-your-heart-wide-open-ness. Though I make respect a habit, I will not always be politically correct, and I believe in the power of making audiences uncomfortable to inspire change.

i've been wanting to say this for a while, but i wasn't sure how to say it, so i hope that it doesn't come out wrong:
ReplyDeletei know that it's an ongoing problem that black people (especially women) get short shrift on the attractiveness front. y'know, racism, colorism, etc. (ugh you remember that article a while back about how black women are just objectively less attractive? smh, ridiculousness.)
i consider myself to be pretty equal opportunity with regards to attraction, but i love that reading your blog reminds me of how attractive black people can be (i mean, duh, just like any other race of people). like, i feel like it keeps the idea in the forefront of my mind so that no racism can insidiously creep in. i constantly find myself remarking, "goddamn he is so hot!" or "wow she is so pretty!" i love it! you introduce some variety into the barrage of images from our racist culture trying to tell me what constitutes "attractive."
so thanks for that. =)
